The Fundamentals of ICU Rehab course is a well known and respected acute care intermediate level course on the mainland and internationally.  This is the first time that this distinguished speaker is offering her course in Hawaii.  The course centers around early mobility for patients in the ICU who are at risk or have developed a deterioration of their functional status.  This course will guide clinicians through the management of ICU patients from patient selection and therapeutic interventions to choice of outcome measures. 

The course will include sessions on dealing with mechanical ventilation and mechanical assistive devices, assessement of the critically ill patient and therapy interventions to support early mobility in the vulnerable ICU patient.  There will be 5 articles for prereading sent to each participant 1 week prior to the course. 

The course is open to all professionals with an interest in acute care or ICU early mobility.  It is anticipated that it will be of interest to PTs, PTAs, OTs, MDs, RNs, COTAs, RTs and SLPs.  This program has been submitted for 14.0 continuing competence units to the Hawaii State Board of PT, and is accepted by the California, New Mexico, Florida, Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Texas State PT Boards; CME credits will be awarded by the Queen's Medical Center to physicians and provided to nurses.

Christiane Perme, PT, CCS, FCCM


Christiane Perme has been a Board Certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist since 2005.  She was awarded fellowship in the American College of Critical Care Medicine in 2017.  She is a Clinical Development Specialist at the Houston Methodist Hospital where she has practiced for 30 years with complex acute care and ICU patients.  Ms Perme has published 13 articles and is co-author in 9 books.  She is an experienced speaker and has presented hundreds of courses and lectures internationally and nationally.
